Your question makes no sense unless you've accidentally typed and extra "y" in your equation.
If what you really meant for your equation was "y = 1x - 5", then this is an equation in slope-intercept form with a slope of 1 and a y-intercept of 5.  To find the x-intercept, solve the equation for x to get "x = y + 5".  This gives you an  x-intercept of 5.
